These built-in red oak bookcases solved the homeowners dilemma of dealing with walls that were badly out of plumb. They also created a beautiful and unique design element in this dinning room.
Built-in Bookcases with Unique Features
Since the walls were out of plumb by as much as 3 inches, all upright standards had to be scribed into the walls and shimmed on the floor to make the installation look correct.
The adjustable shelf supports were rabbeted into the standards, so they were flush with the surface. All 1076 feet of shelving has molding attached to the front edge.
Bookcase with built-in Desk
The built-in desk area is a unique and functional feature of these bookcases. The desk top incorporates a Bobinga wood frame design element.
Freestanding Bookcases
The fluted moldings on the front of the 5 inch thick standards were custom machined from Red Oak and a crown molding was installed at the top to complete the dramatic built-in effect.
The bookcases were finished with a Golden Oak stain and hand rubbed polyurethane.
